1. Launch the dashboard
- Open a terminal in the
ClassActionSuitsfolder. - Run
/Users/KevinKirkwood1/anaconda3/bin/python -m http.server 9021. - Visit
http://127.0.0.1:9021/index.html(or use your IDE preview) to load the site.
Any unique, open port works—update the URL accordingly if you pick another number.
2. Configure filters
- Search (optional): Enter a company, product, or keyword and press Enter or click “Show suits.”
- Industry: Narrow to financial, medical, pharma, tourist industry, airlines, wrongful terminations, and more.
- Minimum payout: Drag the slider to focus on higher-value settlements.
- Cards to show: Choose 1–10 cards; default is 5 for quick scanning.
- Reset: Clears every filter and reloads the default 5-card snapshot.
3. Read a settlement card
Each card summarizes the case, eligibility, status, payout estimate, and enrollment deadline. Use the “Summary” toggle to expose any extra documentation notes, and click “Start claim” to jump to the administrator’s portal.
4. Keep data fresh
- Update
data/claims.jsondaily with newly announced class actions or settlements. - Record timestamps in ISO format (e.g.,
2024-11-06T14:20:00Z) so the “Last refreshed” counter stays accurate down to the minute. - Consider scripting your own scraper/feed that overwrites the JSON file and redeploys the static site.
5. Filing a claim
- Verify eligibility via the official notice linked in each card.
- Gather supporting documents described in the “Summary” area.
- Submit before the deadline; note that some settled cases still accept late paperwork while funds last.
Always rely on the settlement administrator for definitive instructions—this dashboard is informational only.
